Course Requirements

Level I Course Information

Level I is an introduction to the general field of learning disabilities and provides foundational training in the philosophy and techniques of NILD Educational TherapyŽ. The course prepares participants to begin giving educational therapy as NILD educational therapist interns (all participants completing Level I and II are considered interns until certification).

Prerequisites

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field

Level II Course Information

Level II provides a review of Level I NILD Educational TherapyŽ techniques and introduces additional techniques for use with more advanced students. The educational therapist is also introduced to mediated learning and the impact that interactive language can have on the learning process.

Prerequisites

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field
  • Successful completion of the NILD Level I course
  • Minimum Experience - 1 year/100 student contact hours in individual educational therapy
  • On-site visit, if Level I training or last on-site was more than 3 years prior to application
  • Proof of participation in required sessions at an NILD regional conference (Attendance Certificates are valid for two years)

Level III Course Information

Level III provides in-depth study of an information processing model and Feuerstein's Cognitive Functions as well as further developing the use of mediated learning as an integral component within NILD Educational TherapyŽ. The course emphasizes individualization of the techniques for specific student intervention.

Prerequisites:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field
  • Successful completion of NILD Levels I & II training
  • On-site observation after Level II and within 3 years of application
  • Minimum Experience - 2 years/200 student contact hours in individual educational therapy
  • Proof of participation in required sessions at an NILD regional conference (Attendance Certificates are valid for two years)
