Austin Gets the Point!

Submitted by
Suzanne Ringger, Independent Therapist
Simpsonville, SC

Austin had faithfully completed his homework for several weeks, earning the right to be the therapist for me for one technique.  He chose Rhythmic Writing, drew a large eight and instructed me to begin.  After several “change” orders, he said, “Nineteen and eleven, product.”  “Wow,” I responded, still tracing, “I have to think.”  Austin touched my arm lightly.  “That,” he said solemnly, “is what we’re all about here.”

The buzzer word was “aggression.”  Austin’s sentence indicated attack, but the dictionary added the concept of unprovoked.  I asked him if he could give me a sentence conveying the idea that the attack was unprovoked.  “For instance,” I added, “I’m just sitting here in my chair.  Would an attack against me be unprovoked?”  “Maybe not,” he countered, “it depends on what you ask me to do in Rhythmic Writing.”

A Valentine Motif

Submitted by
Jan Reitsema, Program Coordinator
Highlands Ranch, CO

Scott, from Cherry Hills Christian School in Highlands Ranch, CO, came up with this motif idea for Valentine’s Day.  The count to be verbalized as the motif is drawn is “1-2-1-2-1-2-1-2.”

Mom

  I swell with tears to think she’s mine,
My love for her I can’t confine;
Her tender hand and love for God,
Gives strength to me I can’t define.

  I love my mom and must applaud,
Her servant’s heart and will to trod;
Through thick and thin while by my side,
Her years of wisdom leave me awed.

  When hard times strike I must confide,
I fall when struck and mourn my pride;
But mom is here to lift me up,
To see me through this life in stride.

  My life the Lord has now built up,
It’s based on things that fill my cup;
He blessed my life the gift my mom,
That she is there to pick me up.
